Wonderful post—her work has been invaluable. Across them writing is a major tool that is a source of reflection or denied (Dawn, etc.). Fledgling is still the toughest for me to like.
Thank you, Tiya, for facilitating such interesting and encouraging discussions. I was startled to realize that the election results actually made me feel relieved. It is now refreshingly, honestly, clear that White male supremacy built this country and has no intention of ever letting it go. I suddenly shifted my energy from resistance to rebellion.
Sherrilyn Iffill gave a talk called "How America Ends and Begins Again" which has been helping me feel held in community. It's from before the election so she may not be feeling as optimistic about our chances now, or perhaps watching the America-as-we-know-it implode on the world stage will actually speed the revolution along?
"… on the other side of this moment is the greatest opportunity I have seen for us to build the country, the democracy that I, and perhaps you, have dreamed of, precisely because so much about what we have come to expect of our country is unraveling, precisely because the underbelly of our democracy has been exposed, because our politics have been boiled down to its bare skeleton, because the compromises we had grown accustomed to accepting no longer work, because of all of this we have an opportunity to build a new America."
Hi LC, thank you for sharing this. I'll look for that Ifill lecture online. You make a point that is encouraging even while being frightening: when society unravels, there is opportunity to begin a new weave.
I and those around me were deeply fortunate to handle the shock of the first Trump victory buoyed by your willingness to share your mind and heart with us, even as we all reeled. Thank you for reaching out again to enlarge our carrying capacity in this new moment of horror, when we so terribly need one another — and the vision and wisdom we have collectively nurtured, cherished, and preserved for just such times as these. Words are indeed sustenance.
aha! yes, have been referencing Octavia/Parable of the Sewer since mid July, discovering that her novel and sequel - begin July 21, 2024- Full Moon,,,and wonderig if she ght be enlisted in storyre-write ...on tht Full Moon is when Biden handed baton to Kamala, and mythological magic suffused the political....Good magic....but underestimated the black magic of the grotesque Inquistional boys...here's today's show -https://coyotenetworknews.com/radioshow/astromythopolitico/

Your post was a much-needed antidote to falling deeper into despair. Thanks for this, Tiya! And let us all carry on together!
Needed this to face the day. Thank you.

Thank YOU, Mary. That was so beautifully said.
